Newcomer Employment Efforts – Employment Development

Building a sustainable future

Employment opportunity has been discussed vividly ever since the market crash of 2008. Some industries still feel the effects of the economic disaster to this day. However, while most Americans have access to financial relief from the government, many Newcomers do not receive these benefits. The COVID-19 relief bill also does not address these populations. This is disastrous considering the disproportionate affect the virus has had on these vulnerable groups. Newcomers face significantly higher rates of infection and disability, but there is little economic subsidization by the government. This causes many to seek employment in dangerous conditions. Furthermore, this is coupled with the fact that many migrants have lower rates of employment due to negative stigma and institutional issues.

The Sacramento Support Center is committed to aiding in employment development in the Newcomer community. Our goal is to ensure a sustainable income, and by extension, a sustainable livelihood for the people we are committed to serving. Our efforts area spearheaded with partnerships from organizations which have worked in the Sacramento area for generations, and have catered to disadvantaged groups throughout this time. Together, we shall build a future for our community.
